I am so proud to live in this great city. On April 4, Frisco will be hosting a Career FairÂ
specifically for veterans who are looking for work or who are simply considering a career
change. The event will be held at the Frisco Discovery Center located at 8004 Dallas Parkway.Â
The event is a come and go event for veterans only and will be open from
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Veterans will need to provide proof of their military service in order toÂ
participate.
The City of Frisco along with the Mayor's Veterans Advisory Committee have arranged for
the particpation of 30 companies and organizations. Each of the participating companies
will have representatives on-site and will pay a fee along with other donations to
participate. Proceeds will benefit the Frisco VFW Post 8273, which is currently working to
honor our veterans with a memorial "Veterans Walk of Honor" to be established in
Frisco Commons Park.
"We want to do all we can to help our veterans find job opportunities,"
said Mayor Maher Maso. "We owe our gratitude to the men and women who
have served our country to protect our liberties. Here in Frisco, we also
want to do our part to help introduce companies to this highly trained and
dedicated pool of job candidates."
Earlier this month the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the
unemployment rate for veterans who served on active
duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time since September 2001 was 12.1
percent in 2011. They also cited the jobless rate for all veterans
was 8.3 percent last year.
Veterans should bring plenty of resumes along with them. However, if they
need help in creating or updating a resume, representatives of the Texas
Workforce Commission will be on hand to assist. Furthermore, Worldlink, Inc.
will be providing tips on writing cover letters, professional dress, and performing
well in interviews.Â
Some of the particpating companies include: A#1Air Inc.,Acuity Training
Systems, Inc., Allies in Service, American Legion, AT&T,
Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation, BB&T, Cintas, Code Authority, Inc.,
Con-Way, Core Concept Communications, Dallas Air Motive, Dr. Options, Dr
Pepper Snapple Group, Ericsson, Extend Health, Iraq & Afghanistan Veterans
of America, Jet Pay Merchant, Kaplan College, Lennox International, Frisco
ISD, Mario Sinacola & Sons, Medical Center of Plano, Statewide Remodeling,
